“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
World Health Organization, 1948
From our birth we always hear what is healthy and what not, what to care about and what to avoid, what is good for us and what is not. But what is health? It is more than just ingesting healthy food, isn’t it? The word "health" comes from the Old English word hale which means "wholeness, a being whole, sound or well”. One of many definitions says:
Health is a state characterized by anatomic, physiologic, and psychological integrity, ability to perform personally valued family, work, and community roles; ability to deal with physical, biologic, psychological, and social stress; a feeling of well-being, and freedom from the risk of disease and untimely death.
During the Summit we will think about the real meaning of health in our society and what it includes. We will establish facts and raise our awareness, talk about the facts, risks and impacts of our daily lives by talking about current problems in the world.
Health is linked and connected to all the other issues of this year’s summit. Thinking and active work on our and the future generations' Environmental awareness will result in a healthy planet. Youth, as our follower, also plays an important role: there is much in their hands. Together, by taking responsibility, we can work on solutions for Poverty in the world. Every citizen should have a right and a possibility to have health insurance, which is an important part when talking about Democracy. Regarding health, we can defeat Discrimination against people with disabilities, (eating) disorders or some illnesses (AIDS) and fight against Violence. The Summit will give all of us a great opportunity to think more about the world we live in.
